Members who attended the September committee meeting of East Williamston Community and Hall Association spent some time discussing possible forthcoming events. The first of these will be the Annual Christmas Village Party, which always helps neighbours and friends to meet and enjoy some seasonal cheer together. It will be held on Saturday, December 4 (times to be advertised later). This year, the village tree will be situated outside the community hall, rather than on the green, but the evening will begin, as usual, with the switching on of the Christmas lights and carol singing round the tree. This will be followed by a festive evening, including entertainment by Chunky Russell (for which a nominal charge will be made). Chunky Russell, who entertains at Folly Farm, gave a wonderful show in East Williamston at the 2003 Hallowe'en Party, which was enjoyed by old and young alike. With so many Hallowe'en entertainments taking place locally this year, however, it was hoped that securing his services at Christmas would encourage more people to come and join in the fun. All are very welcome to attend. Plans for next year's community hall events, if local support is forthcoming, will include a choir concert and participation in the national celebrations of Trafalgar Day, which will be taking place all over Britain. The community's Jubilee Park and Nature Trail is an on-going project, which continues to excite interest from a number of different groups and individuals. The young trees planted at the start of the year have established themselves well and preparations are underway for phase two planting. Anyone wishing to volunteer his or her time to help with this could contact Ian Wilkinson (01834 813778) or Jennie McIntosh (01834 812125). Young people from Pembrokeshire College Environmental Studies group have been working on the area as part of their course and the contractor will soon be on site with the aim of having all footpaths in place by Christmas. Wildlife is increasing, because the land has not been intensively grazed recently, and there has been the first reported sighting of a woodpecker. The Community and Hall Association looks forward to welcoming Clr. Roy Morgan onto the management committee as the community council's representative. The association's annual general meeting will take place in the Community Hall on Wednesday, December 1, at 7.30 pm, and is open to all residents of the East Williamston community (which includes Cold Inn, Broadmoor, Templebar, Pentlepoir, Wooden, Moreton, Vineyard Vale and the top part of Valley Road). People willing to serve on the committee, which meets monthly, would be especially welcome. The association, and the whole community, were greatly saddened by the recent news of the death of former community council clerk Gillian Morgan, after an illness bravely borne. Gill will be much missed by everyone and thoughts are with her husband and family.
