Sir,

With parking spaces in the town at a premium and a whole page of letters of protest in your paper, might I suggest a simple way in which the problem would be a little improved.

Mark out Tudor Square for 'herring-bone' parking - viz. at right angles to the pavement. Recently some cars have parked this way, much to the chagrin of one of the town councillors. Why the objection, fours cars in the space usually occupied by two?

With an enforced short time limit (say 20-30 minutes), such parking would allow people to do banking, visit the shops and lead to a rapid turnover, keeping the traffic flowing.

As to the Dyster fountain, if it is replaced in its original site, I would give it a very short time before it was damaged again. Why not put it somewhere else, possibly on the pavement where people wait for carriage rides.

Alun Morgan,
