PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 15 pts.
ST. CLEARS 26
The Quins never recovered from a disastrous opening 10 minutes when they conceded two converted tries to the league leaders, St. Clears.
Tries were scored for the visitors by Chris Smith and Dai Jenkins, both converted by the latter, but the Quins soon hit back with a try from Kevin Bratcher, converted by Neil Brace, to pull the score back to 14-7.
Brace and Jenkins exchanged penalties shortly after, but with the last kick of the first half, the visitors' kicker slotted over another penalty to give them a 10-point lead.
As the second half started, the Quins seemed to be getting back into the game, and were soon rewarded with another try from the powerful Bratcher to peg the visitors back.
For a while after, the hosts looked favourites to get a result, but after flanker Phil Hughes limped off, the tide turned back in favour of St. Clears.
The Quins fought until the end, but two more penalties from Jenkins robbed them of a deserved bonus point.
The Quins, for all their efforts, must have rued the opening 10 minutes which ultimately cost them the game.
