In the coming days, several local sports clubs and organisations will benefit from an early Christmas present courtesy of the Oliver Morgan Memorial Fund.
The fund was established in late 2007 in memory of Ollie, who tragically passed away in June of that year.
Generous donations from many organisations and individuals with connections to Ollie and his family have seen a substantial amount of money accrue and it was always the intention of Ollie's family and friends to benefit the local sports clubs and children's settings where he played or attended.
Donations have come from a spectrum of individuals, including Jonathan Boot, of Lydstep, Mr. and Mrs. M. Cole, of Cresswell Quay, the South Pembrokeshire Hunt who generously made Ollie's fund their charity for 2007, John and Trevayne Keohane who put on a lavish Thai Night courtesy of the Paddock, Penally, and family members, Conor and Patrick (cousins) organised a sponsored walk, while Ollie's Uncle Kevin raced in the Paris and Milan Marathons (see picture). Parishioners and family members of St. Teilo's have warmly supported these events and grateful thanks are expressed to all.
Ollie attended St. Teilo's Catholic School in Tenby and his love of sport was nurtured there. Sport was central to Ollie's life and the friendships he forged across Pembrokeshire were truly evident in sporting circles coming together to honour his memory, no more so than at Carew Sports Club where a memorial match was played against a strong Hakin side.
On the rugby front, Tenby Youth have an annual fixture with Pembrokeshire County Youth and the latest in this early season opener was a truly outstanding affair. Thanks to players, coaches, Mrs. Ann Clarke, and all at the Tenby club for their support and generosity.
Donations will be made to Carew Sports Club, Tenby Swifts, Winston's Wish, Haverfordwest U19s, Saundersfoot Surgery and St. Teilo's RC School.
Ty Hafan and the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team all benefited at the time of Ollie's funeral and since then the fund has supported students at Pembrokeshire College where Ollie was a sports science student.
Ollie's family would again like to thank all who have contributed in any way to his fund and thank the members of Carew Sports Club for his latest bench which is currently being installed at the Carew ground. The inscription speaks volumes for the esteem in which the club held 'Our Ollie!'.
