The Saundersfoot Guild of Friendship held a special luncheon at the Gower Hotel, Saundersfoot, last Friday, to celebrate an 'early golden anniversary'.
The guild was founded on March 19, 1956, from the Saundersfoot and District Old People's Welfare Committee, at a meeting held at the Evelyn Coffee Tavern, under the chairmanship of Mr. N. H. Greenwood.
Attending the lunch were present day officers, Norman E. Shuck (chairman), Mary Plunkett (secretary) and Lilian Shuck (treasurer), along with members of the guild, and to their knowledge, the longest surviving member of the first committee, Mrs. Mildred Williams, nee John.
Chairman Norman Shuck spoke about the guild.
"The guild is a non-political, inter-denominational group for senior citizens over 60 years of age, " he explained.
"We meet every other Friday afternoon at 2.30 pm in the Sun Lounge at the Regency Hall, from September until July each year, except for the Christmas and New Year period.
"The programme for each meeting is a speaker or card bingo, followed by afternoon tea. We usually have two half-day coach trips and two luncheons a year in place of the normal meetings.
"Today has been a wonderful and special day for us and especially for Mrs. Williams," said Norman.
