Ground clearance contractors Hywel Griffiths and Sons are the main sponsors of the fourth annual Welsh Dragon Boat Championships, to be held next month at Llysyfran. This popular fundraiser will support mental health and Rotary charities.

Hywel was bemused this week to learn that repeat entrants, the team from the Eagle, of Narberth, are determined to improve their pecking order by beating two-time champions, The Hill Billies, of Narberth Rugby Club.

Over a dozen teams have entered the competition so far and co-coordinator, Rotarian Ken Morgan from the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland, has confirmed that there is still plenty of time to enter the event.

He said: “We have two teams entering from Valero, Paul Sartori is joining us for the fourth time and we have new entrants from Family Fostering and DPJ Foundation.

Main sponsor Hywel Griffiths has added a new twist to the free entertainments this year. He is providing a game of skittles by using a ball and chain suspended from one of his digger machines. This will be used to knock over giant pins using the controls of his digger machine.

“Kids will love this game,” said Hywel.

There will also be a mini zip wire provided by the Army and face painting sponsored by local company Care in Hand, in addition to their bouncy castle, tea cup ride and inflatable dome.

The event will take place on Sunday, May 28, at Llysyfran Country Park and Reservoir, so put the date in your diary. Don’t miss it.

“This is a great fun-filled family day of entertainment where the kids go free all day. The resident magician and mini disco is ideal for the little ones, ” said Rotary president, Mary Adams.
