Dyfed Powys Criminal Justice Board have welcomed the latest set of figures which show improved performance of the justice system across the four counties. Caroline Morgan, chair of Dyfed Powys Criminal Justice Board, said: "The agencies that make up our board work together to ensure that the system is being rebalanced in favour of the law-abiding majority and we're delighted that these year end figures demonstrate our progress. "More fines are being enforced, trials are being run more effectively and as a result we are bringing more offences to justice. But it doesn't stop there; we make every effort to further improve our Criminal Justice System." For example, in Dyfed Powys the figures show that we performed ahead of target in relation to: • The number of offences bought to justice for year ending March 2007 (13,685 against a target of 10,655) • The payment rate for fines issued by magistrates' courts • Ineffective trial rates in Magistrates' and Crown Courts • The Persistent Young Offender Pledge (top performing area in England and Wales for last two quarters of 2006/7). The latest set of Criminal Justice System quarterly performance figures to March 2007 have been published and can be found at http:// lcjb.cjsonline.gov.uk/ The news came ahead of the closure of the national Justice Awards nominations last Friday where practitioners and volunteers are recognised by their peers for going the extra mile within the Criminal Justice System. The winners will be announced during Inside Justice Week, November 3-10.
