The Tenby Dyfed League team go marching on with an outstanding away win at Milford Haven who are one of their main rivals for promotion.

It was a comprehensive win by five games to two, with fabulous performances by Darren Thomas, who was brought in at the last minute to replace a late withdrawal, and his partner Peter Rossi winners by one hole.

Other successes went to Paul Hoyland and Dai Cope winners by one hole, Martin Morris and Loz Phillips by four and three, Chris Hughes and Chris Beecher three and two, Roger Schooling and Tony Key one up.

The other team members who were not quite so fortunate were David Webb and Jeff Banfield, who lost to a put on the final hole, and Nick Thomas and Robin Hagley, who took their home opponents to the 17th green. It was so close to being a clean sweep and as a team performance it was a memorable achievement.

The team spirit at Tenby Golf Club is becoming stronger and stronger with team selection becoming more difficult with so much commitment from so many players. Thanks must go to everyone who makes themselves available for the honour of the club, it is greatly appreciated by the organisers.

The next game is at Tenby tomorrow (Saturday) against a not to be underestimated Priskilly GC team who are also high in the league rankings and will require the utmost respect if a victory is to be achieved. They were victors at the last meeting, all be it at Priskilly, but their team has outstanding golfers and it will be no mean feat to take points from this fixture.

For followers of the Dyfed League, they will be aware of an error in the points score over the last two fixtures. This has now been rectified and Tenby are proudly at the top of their division, but there is no room for complacency so please check the information boards at the club and if you are available for selection for future fixtures please make sure you complete the team sheets.

The journey to Milford Haven on the Bank Holiday Sunday morning was through rain and wind which did not bode well for an enjoyable game of golf, but as if by divine intervention by the time it was time to tee off, the rain stopped and the sky brightened providing ideal conditions, especially for the Tenby team who are used to playing in the wind.

The result was fabulous, but credit must go to the opposition who made it very difficult in each match, as the scores show, but to take points away from home is a large boost for the intended target of promotion.

The hospitality shown by the members of Milford Haven Golf Club was matched only by the quality of the meal provided which was of a high standard and congratulations must go to the caterers and bar staff at the club.

The course was impeccably manicured and was an excellent reflection of the standard of golf courses being prepared in the West Wales area.

Congratulations are in order for the greens committee of the Milford Haven Golf Club for the way they have improved the course and the management of the greens staff whose expertise has not gone unnoticed. Well done to you all.
