At a gathering at Rhosygilwen, Cilgerran, recently, the new High Sheriff of Dyfed was declared.

Mr John Davies, a familiar face in local government and farming circles, takes over from Prof. Elan Closs Stephens.

At the declaration ceremony, attended by local and national dignitaries, along with local representatives of all the emergency services, the new High Sheriff emphasised his desire to support the emergency services during his term of office.

His charitable cause will be the local RNLI station at Cardigan who are hoping to acquire a new lifeboat this year. His commitment towards the RNLI is based upon his great-grandfather's sea-faring tradition as a mariner from the port of Cardigan who was awarded a Victoria medal in 1887 for saving life at sea.
