Antiques Roadshow expert Lisa Lloyd (pictured) is encouraging local people to dust off their treasures for a great, free day out as BBC One’s ever-popular Sunday evening programme which comes to Pembroke Castle on Wednesday, September 7.

The doors for Antiques Roadshow open at 9.30 am and close at 4.30 pm. Entry is free, everyone is welcome, and there is no need for tickets or pre-registration.

Lisa, who joined the programme is 2012, and is currently holidaying in the county ahead of next week’s filming day told the Observer yesterday (Thursday) she was very much looking forward to visiting the castle.

“I visited Pembroke Castle when I was a child so am very much looking forward to revisiting,” said the daughter of Welsh and British Lions rugby star, the late Trevor Lloyd.

Lisa, who has worked in antiques for over 25 years, including 16 years as an auctioneer and director of Rosebery’s in South London, is one of a number of Britain’s leading antiques and fine arts specialists who will be on hand to offer free advice and valuations to visitors, who are invited to raid their attics and bring along their family heirlooms, household treasures and car-boot sale bargains for inspection by the experts.

“It is always interesting to see what people bring along,” added Lisa. “It is nice to have items local to the particular area, but that’s not always the case. People bring things that have appeared in their families from all over the world and it is quite surprising what turns up. Items of local interest may not be terribly valuable, but the history behind them may certainly be intriguing.”

Visitors are welcome to just turn up on the day, but if they have an item with a particularly unusual story attached, or perhaps an interesting collection, or large items of furniture, they can let the producers know in advance via the Share Your Story page on www.bbc.co.uk/antiquesroadshow Alternatively, email: [email protected] or call 0117 974 2395.

Antiques Roadshow presenter Fiona Bruce said: “The best part of working on Antiques Roadshow is that we never know who or what is going to turn up on the day. The visitors, the objects they bring, their stories and the location all combine to make a fabulous experience that we aim to capture for the viewers. If you are a fan of Antiques Roadshow, curious to see behind the scenes, or just fancy a day out, I would urge you to dig out your treasures and come along - we’d love to see you!”

In 2015, nearly 35,000 people attended Antiques Roadshow in the course of the year. Fascinating finds included a jacket belonging to former US president JFK, a musical penknife valued at £80,000, a sketch believed to be by Picasso and bought for a few pounds in a house clearance sale, and a precious toy panda that once flew with the Dambusters.

Antiques Roadshow executive producer, Simon Shaw, said:“Pembroke Castle is the perfect location for Antiques Roadshow, it has a fascinating history and a magnificent setting on the River Cleddau. We hope people bring to show us anything they have that relates to the history of the castle and the area. We would also love to hear about interesting collections and we may be able to help with transporting large or heavy items to Pembroke Castle if people contact us via our website.

“Even after 39 years of Antiques Roadshow, the magic formula of surprising some lucky guests with exciting news about their treasures is still a thrill for us, the visitors and the viewers.”

Concluded Lisa: “We will be open from 9.30 am until 4.30 pm and providing you are in the queue by 4.30 pm, we guarantee you will be seen by a specialist. It’s a great day out. There’s always lots going on. We have a new set this year, plus a new tea tent where everyone can enjoy a cup of tea!”

On the day of the recording, visitors to Antiques Roadshow are advised to use the special temporary park and ride service which will be operating from the Quins Rugby Club, London Road, Pembroke Dock, to and from the bus stop directly outside the castle. There will be two buses in operation between 8.30 am and 1 pm and one bus running from 1 pm until 7 pm. Parking in Pembroke itself is limited and if Antiques Roadshow visitors are planning to use the local car parks, it is suggested they pay for a full-day ticket.
