On Thursday, January 8, representatives from a range of emergency response organisations will be present at a drop-in session for those interested in finding out more about the emergency planning arrangements prior to the arrival of the first delivery of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) to the Haven.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Dyfed Powys Police, Milford Haven Port Authority, Environment Agency Wales, Pembrokeshire County Council and the Health and Safety Executive will all field officers to outline and answer questions about the emergency response arrangements for the Haven and surrounding area.

The event is to be held at Cedar Court in Milford Haven - located just behind Tesco - and will run from 2 until 7 pm and will be open for all to attend.

Pembrokeshire County Council's head of environment and civil contingencies, Richard Brown said: "Under the Control of Major Accident Hazard regulations, off-site emergency plans are required to be prepared for a number of installations around the county and this drop-in session is intended to be very informal, giving the public an opportunity to come along and find out a bit more about the emergency response plan arrangements.

"People can turn up anytime from 2 pm onwards and talk directly with representatives from the emergency services and supporting agencies.

"I think they will be reassured that the risk of an incident is very low and that the safety standards are extremely high and, in the very unlikely event there is a problem, there are good multi-agency response plans in place to mitigate the impacts.

"That said we will welcome constructive comments and observations from the public on the plans and are using this session as an opportunity to consult on their contents."

The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service will also be running a short presentation on LNG every hour on the hour from 3 until 6 pm.
