Dyfed Powys Police Force, as part of an All Wales Campaign, participated in an anti-drink/drug and drive enforcement campaign from July 5 until August 2.
Local Authority Road Safety Units disseminated educational posters to public places prior to the campaign to highlight awareness of anti-drink driving.
In Dyfed Powys, police carried out 1,490 breath tests during the campaign, of which 74 proved positive or failed/refused to provide a sample. This is five per cent of the total and shows a very slight decrease in positive tests compared to the last two years. There was also a substantial decrease in the number of motorists who proved positive at the scene of a collision.
There were 12 road collisions in Dyfed Powys where alcohol was a known contributory factor and that's reflected as 3.7 per cent of the total tests carried out at the scene, 8.6 per cent less than last year. Dyfed Powys Police road safety officer, Susan Storch, said: "While we're still concerned about the overall percentage of motorists who continue to flout the law and cause a danger to other road users, it is positive to see that numbers are decreasing.
"We cannot afford to be complacent and Dyfed Powys will continue to enforce throughout the year as well as working with our partners to drive home the message of anti drink/drug driving."
