Miraculously, no one was injured when a train was in collision with a car near St. Clears on Saturday evening. The 7.05 pm Arriva Trains Wales Pembroke Dock to Swansea train was involved in the accident shortly before 8.30 pm at Ffynnongain Lane level crossing, just north of the village of Pwll Trap. Two fire appliances, one from Whitland and the other from Carmarthen, attended the scene, together with the brigade's rescue tender from Carmarthen. The black Renault clio car was removed from the track using hyab equipment and firefighters were involved in making safe and checking passengers on the train as a precaution. The driver of the car was not injured either. The train was not derailed and was able to continue on its journey. Trains west of Carmarthen were suspended and replaced with bus services for a period, although normal service was resumed the following day. British Transport Police are investigating the cause of the crash and are appealing for witnesses to contact them or to give information anonymously to Crimestoppers.

The crossing concerned is one with gates on either side which have to be opened and closed by people from the vehicles needing to pass. A telephone service is available at the site for motorists to check if trains are due.
