SISTERS Letona and Danielle Harris, aged 11 and eight-and-a-half, from Broadmoor, are two of just 10 children selected to win a pony for a day thanks to the Jeep National Riding Festival, an initiative designed to encourage 200,000 new riders into the saddle.

They were due to take up their prize this week at Pembrokeshire Riding Centre, Hundleton.

The sisters won their pony after Trigger, the festival's mechanical horse, visited Redhill Preparatory School in Haverfordwest. Trigger's visit inspired Letona and Danielle to take up the reins and they now ride on a regular basis at Pembrokeshire Riding Centre.

The first 10 youngsters nationwide to complete a course of 10 lessons as part of the Jeep National Riding Festival win a pony for the day.

As well as riding, Letona and Danielle will learn how to look after their pony by finding out what he eats, discovering how to muck out, how to groom him and how much exercise he needs.

Pembrokeshire Riding Centre proprietor, Sue Scourfield, commented: "Letona and Danielle have been coming here for four months now and are really enjoying it. They have made lots of new friends and their riding has certainly improved. The ponies they have chosen to own for the day, Pom and Lucky, are firm favourites with the staff and we are very much looking forward to their visit."
