THE Small Gallery at Colby Woodland Gardens, near Amroth, is delighted to mount a solo exhibition by artist Vanessa Pearson on the Angle Art Gallery.
Pembrokeshire, and of course, the Angle peninsula in particular, provide her with a source of continuous inspiration. Preferring to work in the early morning or evening light, Vanessa paints and draws her landscapes in situ, working quickly to record the moment while it is fresh in her mind.
She said: "In landscape and figure work I like to capture the movement, the atmosphere and the light."
To achieve this she uses pastels, enjoying them for their great range of colour as well as for providing a medium for drawing. Back in her studio, a selection of sketchbook studies may be used to develop larger works in oil or acrylic. Others are turned into prints as they stand.
Animals - the human figure - Pembrokeshire castles - and a lot more besides will make up this arresting collection.
'Drawing from Life' runs from May 25 to June 6, and Vanessa will be in the gallery herself to meet visitors and discuss her work on the first and last day of her exhibition.
The main gallery alongside offers, as usual, an extensive exhibition of work by local Pembrokeshire artists and craftsmen.
NB. For visitors with young families, Bank Holiday Monday, May 31, is 'Hedgehog Day' at Colby! Children are invited to follow the 'Hedgehog Trail' through the wooded gardens, while bigger people can enjoy the spectacular colours of the azaleas and rhododendrons at the height of their glory. Youngsters will also be able to have a go at making something to take away with them to round off their visit.
Gardens, Gallery, National Trust Shop and Tea Room are open daily from 10 am to 5 pm.
