Dragon LNG has been shortlisted in the Wales Responsible Business Awards 2016, the prestigious awards programme which recognises the best in responsible business from across Wales.
The awards, co-ordinated and managed in Wales by Business in the Community (BITC) Cymru, are the longest running and most robust responsible business awards programme. They identify and celebrate inspirational and leading companies which are taking positive action to address the social, economic and environmental challenges we face as a nation.
The announcement of the 2016 Wales Shortlist was timed to coincide with Responsible Business Week (April 18 - 22), an annual initiative to raise the profile of the positive impact business has on communities and business across the UK.
The Wales Responsible Business Awards 2016, in partnership with Fujitsu, celebrate the variety of ways that business is making a positive difference - to their workforce, with future employees, in their communities, to the local environment, in schools, across their supply chain or across their organisation.
Dragon LNG was recognised for The Dragon LNG Darwin Centre Experience in the Careers Wales Education Award category.
Commenting, Becky Lumlock, managing director, Dragon LNG said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted again for a prestigious Business in the Community Award for the Darwin Project. The shortlisting recognises the continuous support the Darwin Project enjoys from support throughout Pembrokeshire and the project partners Pembrokeshire County Council and Pembrokeshire College.
“The programme enables us to ensure that junior school children receive an exciting introduction to Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) that otherwise they might not get.
“I am absolutely convinced that the work we have done in the past 10 years to bring STEM subjects to schools in Pembrokeshire, will pay real benefits in the future.
“Developing the next generation is important to Dragon, which is why we focus our Corporate Social Responsibility efforts on youth development in Pembrokeshire, like the fantastic Darwin project.”
Rosie Sweetman, director of Business in the Community Cymru, added: “I am delighted that this year we have been able to recognise, through the Wales Responsible Business Awards, companies of all sizes and sectors from the four corners of Wales.
“On behalf of the Prince’s Responsible Business Network in Wales, I would like to congratulate Dragon on its hard won Shortlist place and for playing a part in raising awareness of business as a powerful force for good in Wales.”
The award winners will be announced on June 30, when BITC Cymru will hold it’s annual Wales Responsible Business Awards Gala Dinner at Cardiff City Stadium and will be hosted by BBC Cymru Wales presenter and newsreader, Lucy Owen.
