Children and staff at Hook Primary School took part in a Dr. Bike event organised by the charity Sustrans.

All sizes of bicycles were brought in to be safety checked by qualified mechanics Mike Harry and Justin Goodall, of Enterprise Cycles, who made some valuable repairs and adjustments.

Howard Yeates, Bike It Officer from Sustrans, said: "Cycling to school is a great way for our children to get the exercise they need every day to keep healthy, and research shows it allows them to become better pupils in the classroom. It's great fun to cycle to school, but we must make sure that the children are kept safe as possible. I teach the children how to do the basic ABC safety check which stands for Air in the tyres, Brakes and Chain. They also learn how to do a more thorough 'M' check too.

"Making links between schools and their local bike shops encourages families to make sure everyone's bicycle is safe and ready to ride," he said

Mike Harry, of Enterprise Cycles, said: "We are pleased to be able to support our local 'Bike It' schools who are working with Sustrans to encourage more children to get active on their bikes and ride to school."
