Last week was Down's Syndrome Awareness Week. There was a media campaign to illustrate the theme 'Live life to the full!'
The week aims to promote understanding of the Down's Syndrome condition and the work of the Down's Syndrome Association.
The local Mid and West Wales Support Group are hosting a day out at the renowned Oakwood Leisure Park. Mr. and Mrs. Martin are holding a fund-raising garden party at their picturesque home in Llansteffan. The regional development officer is working with colleagues in Carmarthen to facilitate a training day for nursery nurses and a 'Grand Day Out' for the children with whom they work.
The Down's Syndrome Association is running another conference in Wales, this time with the accent on education, more precisely, inclusion in mainstream settings and differentiating the curriculum at the various key stages.
The conference is based in Cardiff (UWIC) Colchester Avenue Campus, and will run on June 27 for education professionals and Saturday, June 28, for parents and carers. There has been much interest, although there are some places available for the Saturday date.
Please contact Richard Morgan on (01834 813332 or Mr. Julian Hallet on 02920522511 for further information on both days.
Should you wish to find out more about the work of the local support group or join the DSA, please contact Mr. Gwyndaf Tomos, branch secretary, on 01239 891393.
