Llangennech 10 pts. Whitland 1st XV 25

Whitland travelled to play Llangennech in a Swalec National League Division One West match on Saturday, and completed the double over their opponents, winning by 25 points to 10 and outscoring the home side by three tries to one.

Nevertheless, despite the margin of victory, it was a hard fought encounter, but the Borderers certainly deserved to come out on top.

Whitland scrum-half Huw Rees opened the scoring when he slotted over a penalty midway through the first half, before skipper Ryan Michael crossed for an unconverted try to edge his side into an eight-point lead.

This was cut to five when outside-half Craig Evans kicked a penalty for the home side just before the interval.

Whitland were reduced to 14 men when flanker Jack Mason was yellow-carded for an offence at the breakdown, but the Borderers held on to their lead at the break.

Whitland struck early in the second half when number eight Luke Kendall touched down under the posts for his side's second try, which Huw Rees converted.

Llangennech hit back soon after when, with Mason still in the bin and fullback Jonny Morgan out of the game with an injury, they worked an overlap to score their only try of the game by second row Mark Squirrel, with outsidehalf Craig Evans converting.

Midway through the half, Whitland outside-half Carwyn Jones dropped a goal to edge his side further ahead and when replacement number eight Rob Williams was red-carded for kneeing Raff Williams in the back, the Borderers took control

Luke Kendall soon went over for his second try and that was that, with Carwyn Jones adding the extras from the touchline to leave the full-time score 25 points to 10 in Whitland's favour.
