Bonymaen 21 pts. Whitland 40

Whitland completed the double over Bonymaen in Swalec League Division One West, on Saturday, with what in the end was a comfortable bonus point victory away from home.

It was a total team effort from the Borderers, working for each other and putting right the wrongs of the week before, to give them a well-deserved victory.

The home side set the early pace, scoring two tries through prop Richard Brooks and winger Chris Hoppe, both of which went unconverted.

However, scrum-half Richard Cunnliffe did bang over two penalties, while Whitland fullback James Stephenson replied with two of his own to leave the score at the break 16 points to six in favour of the homs side.

They increased the lead early in the second half when second row Will Taylor scored an unconverted try, before Stephenson added his third penalty.

Whitland scrum-half Huw Rees made a great break shortly after and Stephenson was on hand to take the try-scoring pass from flanker James Davies and then add the conversion humself.

Whitland scored their second try when winger Jonny Morgan finished off a great passage of play, with Stephenson again adding the two points, which gave Whitland the lead for the first time.

The Borderers were now totally dominant and when Bonymaen scrum-half Richard Cunnliffe was yellow-carded for a trip in front of the posts, James Stephenson slotted the penalty.

Whitland's third try came after a great cross kick by outside-half Carwyn Jones for winger Will Davies to chase and take the ball, outjumping his opposite number, before making a break down the line and passing back inside for Jones to go over under the posts. Again Stephenson added the conversion.

Whitland gained a bonus point by scoring their fourth try when flanker Jack Mason crossed the line and again Stephenson added the conversion to take his tally for the afternoon to 25 points.

There were some great individual displays and none more so than by second row Dylan Richards, who gave a man-of-the-match performance. The back row of Ryan Michael, James Davies and Jack Mason were also outstanding and half-backs Huw Rees and Carwyn Davies controlled things well behind, with skipper Lee Glanville taking the ball up well in the centre.
