THE first group of door supervisors successfully took their National Certificate training at Jammo's Nightclub, Penally, recently as part of a national campaign to make it compulsory for all security staff working in public places to be registered and fully trained.
The combined efforts of the manager of Jammo's Nightclub, Mike Haines, Pembrokeshire College and Pembrokeshire County Council licensing department has resulted in increased interest in the training of door supervisors to comply with the new Security Industry Authority (SIA) regulations which will make it illegal for anyone to be working without a licence in Wales from September 2004 onwards.
Mike Haines, of Jammo's, who congratulated all the candidates of the first course said: "I am happy to lead the way in furthering health and safety in public venues through the county and the introduction of a professional qualification for door supervision."
There are five elements to the course:
1. Licensing responsibilities and law delivered by Tony Davies, Dyfed Powys Police and Sarah Oliver, Pembrokeshire County Council licensing department.
2. Drug awareness delivered by Helen Williams, Leeds University.
3. Fire Safety delivered by Ken Price, West Wales Fire Brigade.
4. First Aid delivered by Ken Gough.
5. Conflict management and physical intervention - a hands-on session with Basier Training, Barry.
