Sir,
I have been following with interest the deliberations of Tenby Town Council with regard to the funding of the De Valence. I should say that I recently became a volunteer there because I felt very strongly that Tenby needed a community centre of the sort offered by Narberth's Queen's Hall, for example. For this reason, I feel somewhat bewildered by what can only be described as the wrangling going on in council over the funding to the De Valence. It's hard to understand why there is any reluctance to fund such a worthwhile enterprise.
A new, very hard-working and extremely keen young director has been appointed and she is raising the level of the events and activities scheduled at the De Valence. Perhaps people aren't fully aware of the range of things to do and how hard Victoria is trying to cater for the needs of all of the community?
No doubt other activities could be added (I would like to see film club there, for example), but it needs people to get involved, to attend performances and clubs, to make suggestions for alternative activities if that is what they want.
We are very lucky to have this venue and the enthusiasm of the people who work there. Don't let it fail for lack of support, both from the community and from the councillors who represent us.
Jo Tasker,
Woodpecker House,
Brynhir,
Tenby.
