Staff and volunteers at Shalom House in St Davids are celebrating receipt of a grant from the Mark Master Masons of Dyfed wholly funded by its charity, the Mark Benevolent Fund.

The donation, which is part of a Major Capital Grant of £1.3m to over 250 hospices in England, Wales, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, recognises the contribution made by HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh to the service of the Crown and the life of the nation.

Gary Hicks the Provincial Grand Master for Dyfed said: “We are absolutely delighted that the members of the province have chosen to support Shalom House.

“We are all aware of the toll that the pandemic has taken on charities across the country and hope that this small gift will go some way to help enhance patient care and provide improved facilities for those in need and their families.”

Sam Wilson-Croft, Business Manager for Shalom House welcomed the donation stating:?“We are privileged to be recognised for the work that we do.

“This donation will certainly make a difference to the people we support during their time spent at Shalom House Day Centre.

R W Bro Gary Hicks Provincial Grand Master, Dyfed Mark Masons and W Bro Jim Thomas Charity Steward Five Arches Lodge of Mark Masons visited Shalom House and met with Sam and Rob, one of the hardworking Palliative Healthcare Assistants and presented a cheque for £1,000.

Shalom, meaning peace, provides holistic, accessible, personalised care to the people of Pembrokeshire that have been diagnosed with cancer or life limiting illness.

They provide respite care for families and support those who may feel isolated living alone or who live in rural communities.

Shalom is a place to share worries, talk to other people that will understand and to let go of anxieties.

The caring team at Shalom House are there to assist people both in the day centre and in their own homes, along with supporting families to take care of their loved ones every step of the journey, including ultimately bereavement counselling.
