An American singer and musician who has played live for over one million people within the past three years is to perform at Burnett’s Hill Chapel, Martletwy, this weekend.

A great showman and entertainer, Dom Flemons was a key part of the hugely popular Carolina Chocolate Drops, which he co-founded. With the band he appeared at a host of festivals including the Newport Folk Festival in addition to renowned venues such as the Grand Ole Opry and numerous appearances on the Jools Holland Show. The band won a Grammy for its 2011 album Genuine Negro Jig.

A multi-instrumentalist, Dom plays banjo, blues guitar, harmonica, fife, bones, snare drum and quills, in addition to singing. His solo shows find him digging deeply into ragtime, Piedmont blues, spirituals, southern folk music, string band music, jug band music and ballads - all performed with showmanship and humour.

He is coming to Europe this month for a summer tour which will see him performing at folk festivals in Britain, Belgium and Holland, sometimes as part of a duo with the great Martin Simpson. But before he hits the festival trail, Dom will be coming to Pembrokeshire to perform his solo show in the rather more intimate surroundings of Burnett’s Hill tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30 pm. Tickets are available from Main Street Music in Pembroke or on 01646 651725.
