A talented troupe of dogs and their handlers are getting ready to take a bow-wow in Pembrokeshire.

A fast-moving, all-action, tail-wagging show, where four-legged friends make sure they have a paws for applause, is being staged at Folly Farm throughout the season.

Tomorrow (Saturday) will see the first of scores of performances by the dog sports team K9 Capers in the Follies Theatre, where expert handlers Vicky Shelton and James Coxon will showcase the skills of seven of their clever canines.

The pair have been presenting their dog sports shows at venues throughout Wales and the west of England, but this is their first venture onto an indoor stage.

"It's going to be great fun for the audience as well as the dogs," said Vicky.

"Our aim is to show people what they can do with their pets. The dogs absolutely love it, and they howl with anticipation before the show!"

K9 Capers cast members Sam, Griff, Fraggle, Freebie, Fidget, Timber and Kip - whose breeds range from Australian Shepherd to Parson Jack Russell terrier - each have their own distinct personalities and talents which come to the fore in their on-stage activities.

The 25-minute Dog Olympics show includes a hurdles race, a digging competition and an audience participation 'beat the goalie'.

Vicky and James, who live near Caerphilly, both boast impressive pedigrees in the dog handling world. They are each previous winners of the Welsh Agility Handler of the Year title, while Vicky also trains animals for film and television - including her own Fraggle, who has appeared in Dr. Who, Casualty and Pobl y Cwm.

Said Folly Farm managing director Chris Ebsworth: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with K9 Capers throughout 2009.

"I've watched most of the rehearsals and the all of the dogs are absolute stars. They each have their own unique characters and can't wait to get out on stage."

K9 Capers will be performing twice daily in the Follies Theatre this Easter between April 4 and 19, with the exception of April 5, 10 and 17, when magic act Jugglestruck will be on stage.
