Sunday, October 21, saw Tenby's 26th Annual Open Fishing Competition held on Amroth, Saundersfoot and Tenby's North and South beaches. Some 280 anglers fished the competition, coming from far and wide.

Of the 280, some 127 anglers weighed fish in, with dogfish being the predominant species.

Conditions on the day were more like the height of summer than a late October Sunday afternoon.

The weigh-in was held at Tenby Ex-Servicemen's Club.

Results and prizes were: 1. Martin Lewis, of Mountain Ash, who picked up £1,000 for a dogfish of 1.228 kg; 2. Richard Rees, of Herbrandston (£250 for a dogfish of 1.220 kg); 3. Chris Hicks, of Milford Haven (£150 for a dogfish of 1.204 kg); 4. Mark Hearn (£100 for dogfish of 1.198 kg).

The ladies prize was taken by Miss N. Beckett with a dogfish of 0.866kg and she won £60.

The heaviest flounder prize was picked up by junior angler Gavin Newton, who won £200.

Vincent Guyseman won the junior prize of £50 with a dogfish of 0.944kg.

First place in the team event went to Frank Attanaso and M. Cowell with a combined weight of 12.744 kg; they won £100.

Martin Lewis at Amroth, Chris Hicks at Saundersfoot, Louis Beynon at Tenby north and Keith Williams at Tenby south, won the zone prizes of £50 each.

Other species weighed in included whiting, plaice, flounder, coalfish, dab and rockling.
