Dog owners in Pembroke are being urged to clean up after their pets.

Despite warning signs and the threat of fines if caught allowing their dogs to foul footpaths, the issue is still a matter of concern in the town.

Now councilors are urging the public to show some consideration for others and clean up after their pets.

"A survey has found that dog fouling is among the environmental issues which cause people the most concern in Pembrokeshire," said Clr. Ken Rowlands, cabinet member for environmental and regulatory services.

"Most dog owners are responsible, but some have no consideration for others."

Pembrokeshire County Councillors Rosalie Lilwall and Pearl Llewellyn said that some of the worst areas in the town were the wooded area to the south of the Commons Car Park and around Castle Walk.

"Members of the public are constantly complaining to me about this issue," said Clr. Lilwall.

"These areas are not just used by dog owners exercising their pets, but also by parents with pushchairs, disabled people and the partially sighted. They should be kept clean for everyone's benefit."

Dog owners caught allowing their pets to foul footpaths face £75 fixed penalty fines.
