Tenby councillors want the public to be more responsible when it comes to cleaning up after taking their dogs for walks around the town and its sea-front. Their views were expressed when a letter was brought before them at their meeting on Tuesday, from a couple from Shropshire, who spent Christmas staying in the town with friends. "It is now impossible to walk around the town and the sea-front without having to tip-toe through the dog mess," wrote Mr. and Mrs. Skilton. "On Christmas morning in Tenby at about mid-day, there were 23 people on the main beach and no fewer than 33 dogs, the vast majority of which were let loose to do whatever they wanted on the beach, with no sign of effective control from the authorities or awareness of the problem by the owners," they continued. Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter felt there had been less signs of dog fouling around the town and its beaches over the past few months, but said that they should forward Mr. and Mrs. Skilton's concerns to Pembrokeshire County Council. However, Clr. Mrs. Maureen Ward felt that locals were just as much to blame as were visitors who walk their dogs. "I've witnessed many local people doing it, and who don't bother to clean up after their dogs; it's the minority, but they need to be educated," she commented.
