X Factor fans from Pembrokeshire have their very own star in the making to follow in the new series of the hit show. A passionate performance from Jay James Picton, a former Royal Navy fitness instructor from Saundersfoot, saw him make it through to the next round of the ITV talent show watched by millions on Saturday night. In the programme, the singer was the last hopeful to audition in front of Mel, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh. And the judge he impressed the most was none other than Mr. Nasty, Simon Cowell who said that he had a 'really good feeling' about the singer. Jay, who left the Navy after suffering a knee injury, also made Mel B cry with his rendition of A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera's 'Say Something'. Following his audition, Simon told Jay: "Amazing, that is how you do it. The control on your voice, the way you built it was outstanding. I've got a really, really good feeling about you." Mel added: "The passion and emotion was ridiculously good, I cannot even tell you. And I hate you because you made me cry. I don't cry, simple as that." And Cheryl claimed it was the most passionate audition they'd seen so far. "The passion oozed from you," she said, as the panel had no hesitation putting him through. Telling the judges how he got into singing, 30-year-old Jay explained: "I was training one day and went over on my knee. I got sent on sick leave, bought a guitar and started to sing." Jay is seeking his second chance of stardom. He previously had a recording contract and was the support artiste on tours by both Jessie J and former X Factor finalist Rebecca Ferguson. Speaking on ITV's This Morning on Monday, Jay said he had now left the label. "It wasn't going too well, so I just decided rather than it turn into a car crash, to leave the label. I actually asked to be released." Since filming the initial X Factor audition earlier this summer, Jay has performed in one of the show's Wembley arena auditions, but we have yet to find out whether he will be chosen to go on to 'boot camp'. If he does he will then have a chance to sing at judges houses ahead of the live shows. One thing is for sure, the people of Pembrokeshire certainly think Jay has the X Factor and will be backing him all the way!
