Recently, at Bristol Cathedral, Daniel Russell achieved yet another academic success when he was presented by the University of the West of England with a PhD degree.

He received his early education at Lamphey and Pembroke schools and was a junior member of the 'East End Flyover Company'. He studied at Sussex and Grenoble University, where he obtained his BA degree.

Leaving college, he became a popular young reporter with the Middlesex Chronicle where his show page was noted for its humour. He went on to obtain a teaching degree at Leicester University, before spending the next eight years teaching at Worcester Sixth Form College, where he became head of department.

He moved to the University of Kent at Canterbury, where he was awarded an MA with distinction; he then spent some time in China preparing Chinese students for English universities.

Doctor Russell, who is at present teaching at Henley College, is the youngest son of Mr. Pat Russell and the late Mrs. Betty Russell, of Marledge Farm, Stackpole.
