In reply to Roscoe Howells's letter, I have a distinct memory at the start of the Second World War of seeing Haile Salassie and his family board the Caldey boat from the old pier (as it was known then). As the Caldey boat very rarely went anywhere else besides Caldey, I assumed that that is where they went, but I suppose I could have been wrong!... it was a long time ago, over 70 years. I was about 12 at the time.
