Sir, I must disagree with your statement 'Historic Gates restored in Tenby', they are a replica and still opened to doubt! Long before the lorries destroyed the original gates they were showing scars that were part of the local lore. To duplicate the original, the fancy centre of the left hand gate portrayed should have a slight bow in it, preferably a small plate 'Charlie Hermann's Mark'. Charles Hermann Thomas, to give him his full title, had workmen doing some restoration work at Lexden Terrace and had a complaint! His workmen were leaving the gates open, contrary to local customs. So Charlie went on site and duly stood the 'outside work' labourer, dressed him down and made it very clear that in future the gates must be kept closed. A couple of days later, Charlie was doing some local deliveries using the shop carrier bike and decided to visit the Lexden Terrace job. His approach to the opened gates was spotted by the labourer who decided that he had time to close them. Local rumour said that at the moment Charlie was waving to an old friend and ran into the gate. There were scars on the gate, some slight damage to Charlie who immediately passed some comments that could best be interpreted as "Why did you close the gates you silly man." The reply was quick and curt "'Cause you told me too."
