Tenby Town Council have been upset and angered this week after vandals destroyed their flower beds in the town's Battery Gardens.

Town Council staff recently completed a planting scheme in the gardens overlooking the South Beach and were dismayed yesterday (Thursday) to find that vandals had destroyed or stolen most of the plants.

"It's very disheartening," said the council's head gardener Kevin Taylor.

"We came in for a bit of criticism in the press earlier on this year over the condition of the Battery Gardens, yet when we try to do something about it, all our efforts are wasted because of the actions of a few mindless vandals.

"We are trying to enhance the town's municipal gardens for the benefit of local and visitors alike, while also bidding for our 13th successive Wales in Bloom win, but what chance do you have when you are faced with this."
