Sir,
My husband and I have been visiting family and friends in Tenby for many years. We love the town and the people, also the many lovely surrounding villages, where we can walk and relax and chat with the locals.
We were dismayed to hear of the savage cuts in funding for the floral displays in the public gardens and the Welcome to Tenby area. We feel this is shortsighted and a backward step. The county council should see the bigger picture and realise that fully- funded floral displays and general cleanliness around the town is an investment, giving visitors a pleasant and enjoyable holiday, which in turn increases general spending and income from car parking charges in and around the town of Tenby - giving the county council coffers a big boost.
Also, we were dismayed that the future of Tenby Market in High Street is under threat due to county council cuts - as well as the town bus service and the park and ride, to see where money can be saved. This, together with the rumoured closure of the National Park Information Office and Shop in South Parade, has been disappointing news to hear.
We do hope the Tenby county councillors will fight to keep these facilities open, as well as forcing a rethink on the funding issues regarding the gardens, especially when it is difficult to attract people into the town centres.
To finish on a positive note, we do love to visit the WI Country Market on a Friday morning in the Church Hall, opposite the Post Office. The home-made cakes and savoury foods are a real treat and we always stock up with supplies to take home with us! Long may they continue amongst all the negativity within the town.
