Sir, During a recent meeting between members of the Hywel Dda Health Board, who were led by their chair Mr. Chris Martin, Mr. Purt, and other members of its management local South East Pembrokeshire County Councillors were given a categorical assurance that before the Tenby Minor Injuries Unit closed, there would be a commensurate improvement in GP services. Might it be a reasonable question to ask where these improvents are? As summer approaches, with the anticipated huge increase in population, we now appear to have three GPs in Tenby from the end of May. One only has to try to obtain an appointment at present to understand what a dire condition the health service is currently in. What on earth will happen when summer arrives? In Tenby, in recent years, we have been reduced from a wonderful cottage hospital, to a minor injuries unit, which in my opinion was designed to fail, at a cost of over £4 million, to a struggling GP service. During all of that time, those who have campaigned for health services have been seriously misled by successive health authorities and boards. Duplicity on their part isn't too strong a description, and their actions border on malfeasance. Mr. Martin, as chairman, has presided over the disintegration of our local health service and is now moving on to become a board member of Milford Haven Port Authority. Before he moves on, perhaps we might see Mr. Martin handing out waterproofs and umbrellas early in the morning outside the Tenby and Saundersfoot GP practises to those patients who have to queue in all weathers to get one of the few appointments available, as part of his promised 'commensurate improvement of the GP service.'
