Sir,

Britain is the only country in Europe that recruits children of 16 into the regular army where, after the first six months, they cannot leave until they are 22.

They cannot vote, drink in a pub, or drive a car, but they can be trained to kill, and at 18 can be sent to Afghanistan.

They are likely to return from this experience damaged by the horrors they have seen and possibly maimed for life. We have all seen pictures on the television of some of these young people who should have been enjoying the best years of their lives.

Parliament has the chance at the moment - which only happens once every five years - to get rid of this disgraceful practice. Help to save our children by urging your MP to support Early Day Motion 781.
