Jill Williams, accompanist of the 'Choir of Gentlemen,' (CoG), together with Eric Mullins and Margaret Rees, the event co-ordinators, receive a very generous cheque for £1,370 from Ken Williams, secretary of the disbanded Kilgetty Male Choir. The Choir of Gentlemen gave a one-off Gala Concert at the Park House Pavilion, County Showground, Haverfordwest on Saturday, May 7. Because Jill and Christine Shewry, the music director of the choir, have both been very grateful for the care and treatment given by the medical and nursing staff, their aim was to raise £15,000 to purchase special orthopaedic chairs for Ward 1 and a Mobile Ultrasound Sonosite Monitor for the Breast Cancer Unit in Withybush Hospital. When members of the now disbanded Kilgetty Male Choir heard about the 'Choir of Gentlemen' event, it coincided with a meeting they were holding to decide where their remaining choir funds should go. Members wished the funds to be used by another musically orientated party and if possible should be to the benefit of the local community and it was agreed that this Gala Concert 'ticked all the boxes.' The 'Choir of Gentlemen' would like to express their thanks to all past members of Kilgetty Male Choir for donating this fantastic sum to the cause. Full details of the final total raised will be available in the very near future and so far everything looks very favourable. The 'Choir of Gentlemen' recorded a CD for this one-off event and these are still available, price £5, by ringing (01437) 899320.
