There was a disappointing start to the new Dyfed League season for Tenby on Saturday as they lost 5-4 at home to division three promotion winners, Glyn Abbey. Glyn Abbey certainly looked the part with matching team shirts, but it was Tenby who started with flying colours. Booming drives from the two new exciting pairings of Andy Pouton and Richard Morton and Dan Cope with David Ayers saw them both breeze home with comfortable 5 and 4 victories - so a well deserved early drink and a chance to watch the football on TV. Steve Amos and Richard Ormond narrowly lost one down, along with Gareth Rees and Andrew Morton. However one up wins for Martin Morris and Martin Creese, and Paul Hoyland and Peter Rossi settled things for a while. Unfortunately, the new pairing of Nick Thomas and Neil Lovatt lost two down. This tight encounter was going to come down to the final experienced pairings, namely Paul Heywood and John Stenson, who lost four down and took an early bath, and Gary McNeilly and the late replacement Dai Cope, who unfortunately lost 3 and 2. Thanks to everyone for supporting the team and to captain David Leeke for attending and supporting his first Dyfed League team match. Next match is on Sunday, May 7, away at Garnant Park, when hopefully a reversal of this result will put Tenby onward and upward.
