The Haverfordwest /Milford Haven branch of Wales’ heart research charity, the British Heart Foundation, brought together over a 100 people to fundraise at an annual dinner at Milford Haven last Sunday, raising over £1,000 for heart research.

Jayne Lewis, BHF Cymru’s local fundraising manager, said: “Our local BHF branch members at Haverfordwest and Milford Haven have inspired many local people to come on board with us to fundraise for our work - providing local defibrillators, support and guidance to heart patients and powering our research. Their dinner at the Beggar’s Reach Hotel was held so that our work to research the causes of heart disease continues.

“Our research journey over the last 50 years has been phenomenal” she added. “But with over 350,000 in Wales still living with the burden of heart disease we have a lot further to go. Until research provides all the answers, we are committed to supporting heart patients and their families to get the best possible care and advice.”

Alan Carrington, chairman of the Haverfordwest/Milford Haven BHF Cymru branch, said: “Heart disease remains the biggest killer in Wales. That is why we as a local branch understand the need to fundraise for heart research. The charity’s work has been central to the discoveries of vital treatments that are changing the fight against heart disease. There is still much work to be done to fight this disease and the devastation it causes. I would like to thank our branch members and everyone who supported the event which raised a considerable amount of funds for BHF Cymru.”
