Pembrokeshire's Leisure Centre staff are raising their game!

Fourteen employees from leisure centres across the County have been presented with NVQ certificates by the Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council, Clr. Anne Hughes.

The awards are the latest staff achievements in a major training initiative run by Pembrokeshire Leisure - the leisure services arm of Pembrokeshire County Council - and training provider, ICON Training.

The initiative aims to raise service standards in leisure centres so as to encourage more people to keep well and get fit.

At a special reception in County Hall this week, Clr. Anne Hughes congratulated the employees on their achievements.

"Awards such as these will help raise standards and create a workforce better equipped to promote a healthier and fitter population," she said.

The leisure centre staff - from several centres across the county - have attained their NVQ leisure qualifications in a variety of disciplines including customer service, operations and health and fitness.

More than 100 staff members have achieved NVQ's since the start of the training initiative.

Clr. Rob Lewis, cabinet member for sport and leisure said staff training was a crucial element in encouraging people to keep fit.

"Such training will help improve the professional service we offer in leisure centres to match the £20m investment we have made in leisure buildings and facilities across the county."
