On Thursday last Alun and Joan Morgan celebrated 60 years of marriage with an “excellent” buffet at the Fourcroft Hotel, his late father’s hotel.

The couple had struck up a friendship as they waited for a bus while Mr. Morgan, son of Tenby headmaster Ossie Morgan, was a dental student. Joan Robson was a secretary in Newcastle Upon Tyne. They were engaged at Easter 1957 and married 18 months later.

The wedding took place at St. George’s Church, Jesmond, Newcastle on Saturday, October 25, 1958. There were four bridesmaids: one cousin of the bride and three nieces of the groom. The latter included Wendy (Osborne, seen in the wedding photo behind the bride and groom) and Susie (Lincoln).

For eight years Mr. and Mrs. Morgan lived above Alun’s dental practice in Meyrick Street, Pembroke Dock, before making Nyth Aderyn their home. (The name is Welsh for Bird’s Nest.) Mr. Morgan kept the practice until his retirement in 1995.

Alun and Joan had a very enjoyable celebration. They received plenty of cards and flowers and, with help from their granddaughter, Francesca, a card from the queen.

There were five people present on Thursday who had attended the wedding in 1958: Mr. and Mrs. Morgan, bridesmaids Wendy and Susie, and Mrs. Ray Lowe, sister of the groom.
