A SECOND year National Diploma Computers and Design student at Pembrokeshire College, Joe Hoyle, was recently snapped up by a Detroit based company called Name Media who own one of the largest portfolios of domain names in the US, including photography.com and gardening.com. Nineteen-year old Joe originated from Derbyshire and has been living in west Wales for the past 10 years. After gaining seven GSCEs, Joe wanted to pursue the creative elements of design technology, especially web design. His multimedia skills alongside his networking skills have allowed Joe to set up his own company and freelance between his college studies. "I love computer technology, especially the forever changing landscape it moves in. Learning about design aesthetics has only enhanced my skills in the field of web and design technology. Pembs College kept me focused and introduced me to new design techniques. Without it I would not have gained employment with Name Media," commented Joe. Denys Bassett Jones, design lecturer at Pembrokeshire College, said: "This is a great example of vocational courses working hard for both employer and employee. It is encouraging to see a young and talented entrepreneur gaining nationally recognised qualifications and work for an international company. At 19, it doesn't get better than this!" Members of the public and potential students and parents are encouraged to attend the forthcoming further and higher education end-of-year shows in June.
