Despite the cool damp conditions, almost all Saundersfoot St. Issell's Guides turned out to lead the clean up of Saundersfoot beach on Friday.

Starting at 7 pm, the intention was to complete the task in one hour, but, carried away with their enthusiasm, they did not finish until 8.30 pm.

Assistance to the Guides was given by the chairman of Saundersfoot Community, Clr. Clifton John, and chairman of the Saundersfoot Recycling Group, County Councillor Philip Baker.

Other support was given by members of the Saundersfoot Recycling Group and general members of the public, the youngest participants being under six-years-old.

"We were amazed at the amount of rubbish collected," said County Councillor Phil Baker.

"Over 12 large rubbish bags were filled. Items found included a wide range of plastic containers and bags, netting and plastics in various stages of deterioration and even one old car wheel. Such was the enthusiasm of some of the Guides that they had even made their own pick-up sticks. They serve as an example to us all."

Clr. Baker also expressed thanks to Saundersfoot Community Council for the support given to this event and Pembrokeshire County Council for lending collecting equipment.
