As tension mounts for this year's X-Factor contestants, one local dentist is hoping to prove that he, too, has got what it takes.

Amid news that X-Factor judge Tulisa allegedly spent more than £12,000 on her dazzling smile, Tenby dentist Fawaz Abbas aims to show that owning a gleaming set of gnashers does not have to be the preserve of the rich and famous.

Since the hit talent show first appeared on our screens back in 2004, Mr. Abbas says he's seen a rising number of people approaching the surgery for cosmetic procedures, including teeth-whitening, Botox, and veneers.

"In the past, I think people wanted to hide the fact they'd had these sorts of treatments, but with many celebrities openly admitting they've had their teeth surgically whitened, there's not that same stigma attached to it that there once was," he says.

"We've seen people of all ages and all backgrounds asking us about these procedures. For some, it's to correct an aspect of their appearance that they've always been embarrassed about, but for others it's simply another way to turn back time and make themselves appear younger and healthier."

Environmental factors like smoking and coffee-drinking can also play a part, resulting in stained teeth that can become unsightly over the years.

Whilst he's never been tempted to enter the singing contest himself, Fawaz says he hopes to prove he has the X-factor when it comes to caring for clients!

"Everyone wants to look their best, whatever their profession, and a winning smile is one way to do that," says Fawaz.
