Sir,
I write in response to the letter from Mrs. Marion Davies in the Observer on August 8, titled 'Dental service woefully inadequate'.
I certainly sympathise with Mrs. Davies and agree that having received a grant in tens of thousands of pounds and possibly receiving capitation payments for patients referred to 'the NHS Practice' in Carmarthen from Eric Blackwell's practice in Tenby, that appointments should have been made.
In February 2002, I was approached to accommodate the Denplan patients of the late Dr. M. Snelle who was practicing in Kilgetty. This I did and all patients on the list were sent an appointment (some have yet to attend), and a significant number have become regular patients.
Dentistry is not about 'packing them in' - it's about providing the appropriate care in the appropriate environment.
Dr. Tim R. Lewis,
79 Water Street,
Carmarthen.
