Currently attending the annual rally of European young farmers and 4H club members at Druva in the Saldus region of Southern Latvia is a delegation of YFC members from Wales. Among them is a prominent Pembrokeshire Young Farmers Club member, Delme Harries, of Llysyfran club, who becomes the organisation's chairman. He succeeds Franz Fensl, an Austrian member who is employed by his country's Department of Agriculture. Delme, who is employed as an agency manager by the NFU and NFU Mutual at their offices in Crymych and Narberth - the biggest in Wales - has a long association with the YFC movement, covering a period of some 20 years. He became county chairman for Pembrokeshire and its representative on National Federation Council for many years before taking on the role of Wales Council chairman. He has since figured prominently within the European committee travelling widely promoting their objectives. Covering a total of 22 individual countries, there are currently over 500,000 members across the British Isles and central Europe - the largest rural youth organisation on the continent and the members of whom are all, in one way or another, associated with the European Youth Forum. During the Rally, delegates will be studying the different elements within Latvia - especially agriculture, human rights issues, rural development opportunities and inter-cultural training.
