A programme documenting Tenby student and wheelchair sport superstar Lily Rice will screen on BBC 1 next week as part of the station’s ‘Our Lives’ series.

When teenager Lily of Manorbier became the first person in Britain to land a wheelchair backflip, her life was transformed for ever. The clip went viral and Lily was invited to be in a pop video and a multi-million dollar promotion.

Lily a pupil at Tenby’s Greenhill School then became world champion of wheelchair motocross, an extraordinary new sport in which competitors flip, spin and ride their chairs over ramps and obstacles. But when an accident on a ramp causes Lily to have a crisis of confidence, only fellow competitors and her own courage can get her through.

The BBC programme document’s Lily determination to overcome her block and attempt her trademark flip once again.

Lily gained further recognition last year for her sporting efforts when she scooped the ‘Young Sportswoman of the Year’ award at the BBC Cymru Wales Sports Personality of the Year 2019 event.

Earlier in 2019 she won gold in the Women’s WCMX World Championships held in Germany representing Great Britain in Cologne, with her victory following on from her second place in the North American championships.
