Mrs. Joyce Owen greeted friends on entering the church; these included many visitors to the town.
Family news was given by the church secretary. An inspiring time of worship was led by Mrs. Trina Sutton, accompanied on the guitar by Mr. Kevin Adams. The young people in the church hall enjoyed a video depicting the life of Gideon. Many members of the congregation took part in the prayer time, introduced by Mrs. Phyllis Duffett.
Mr. Gerald Duffett, the guest preacher, took his text from Hebrews, what at first seemed unsettling and disturbing, 'Man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement.'
Gerald illustrated from the scriptures that for the Christian this verse is actually encouraging, death will pass away and Christians will be judged on works, resulting in 'rewards - crowns' and commendations 'Well done thou good and faithful servant.'
Tomorrow (Saturday), at 7 pm, there will be a Songs of Praise evening. Organist is Dr. John Harrison and the event is in aid of a branch of Tear Fund, 'Compassion'.
