DEER PARK BAPTIST CHURCH
'Courage, Unity and Prayer' were the key words of Sunday morning worship. Tom based his sermon on Joshua 6, the account of the Israelite victory over Jericho. The Israelites had entered the Promised Land but did not yet possess it, Joshua listened to God and followed His instructions.
In human terms it must have seemed foolish to march round the walls of Jericho for seven days, but the people together followed Joshua in obedience and the last shout caused the walls to collapse enabling them to take the city.
In order to advance in our Christian life we need to seek the Lord in prayer to hear clearly the vision and plan He had for us, and then we need faith to release God's purpose. We can hear instructions and not put them into practice or try to do things by our own efforts, but we will only experience victory if we are in God's will.
When a community of God's people together call on the Lord for help and have the courage to step out in faith with Jesus at the centre, God will advance His Kingdom and bless His people.
During the service we were pleased to receive Alan Hunter into membership and to pray God's blessing on his family. The morning concluded by sharing communion together.
David Cardwell led the evening service and preached on Song of Songs 2:15 'Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.' It is often not the big things, the 'wolves,' that get in the way of spiritual walk, but an accumulation of the small things.
