A statement in the current issue of the Tenby Times implying that Penally Voluntary Controlled School has already closed its doors is incorrect and the result of an unfortunate misunderstanding.
Clarifying the situation, Pembrokeshire County Council said this week:
A statutory notice of the authority's intention to close Penally VC School was issued on February 24, 2006. Objections to the closure proposal were received.
In these circumstances, if the authority decides to proceed, the decision concerning closure must be made by the Welsh Assembly Government.
Pembrokeshire County Council's cabinet considered the matter further on May 22 and agreed to refer the proposal to the Welsh Assembly for a decision, which will be made by the Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning.
The decision is awaited and the school will remain operational pending the minister's decision.
We apologise for any confusion the article in the Tenby Times may have caused parents, staff and governors.
